15.30 HOURS, 30 APRIL 1992: REPORTED DETENTION OF MR

BOB PARRY MP

There have been press reports that a group of

European Parliamentarians was detained earlier this

afternoon in Tiananmen Square after unfurling a banner

calling for democracy and free trade unions.

Mr Bob Parry, a British MP, was a member of that

group.

According to reports, Chinese police and the

People's Armed police asked them to leave the Square

whereupon they sat down. The police then obliged the

group to enter a police bus and they were driven away.
