Arrival Programme - 9 July 1992

HONG KONG

May 1992

I am sending with this letter a draft programme

for your arrival on 9 July 1992. I have not gone into too much detail in the programme at this stage because it would be helpful to know if you are content with the outline before we proceed with the fine tuning. But I thought you would find it useful, even at this early stage, to have a map of the route from the Airport to Government House and a sketch plan of the seating layout on the stage of the Concert Hall in City Hall for the Swearing-in ceremony (Serials 8 to 12 in the programme). These are annexed to the programme.

The arrival follows traditional lines, and previous Governors - certainly the last three have followed a similar programme. The harbour crossing is also traditional and affords a spectacular view of the harbour, Kowloon, and the north side of Hong Kong Island. The disembarkation at Queen's Pier (Serial No. 8 in the outline programme) marks the start of the more formal proceedings, and I have included the names of the greeting party at pierside in the outline programme.

There are some additional points on which I should be grateful for guidance :

(a)

At Serial No. 4 of the outline programme we have allocated you 25 minutes in the VIP Suite. This can be spent privately in tidying up and changing if you so wish (we can easily arrange for a change of clothing, to be pre-positioned in the VIP Suite). This short stay in the VIP Suite will also give you some slack in the unlikely event that the aircraft is late. Are you content with this? We could reduce the time if you think it is too long.
