me on my appointment as Governor of Hong Kong.

I have read with interest the points you raise about

various aspects of Hong Kong life. Thank you for your

advice. I look forward to the challenge of administering

the territory justly and efficiently until the transfer of sovereignty in 1997. I will certainly stand up for

the interests of the Hong Kong people and work for the Government's overall objective of a transition which will safeguard Hong Kong's stability and prosperity and the rights and freedoms of its people.
