Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce

The Chairman of the IIK General Chamber of

Commerce has written in to invite Mr. Patten to use the Chamber as a platform for his first public address to the Hong Kong business community. They are entirely flexible on timings. I have discussed this with Mike Hanson, the Information Coordinator. Our advice is that this might indeed be a good forum for a major public speech. But there is no hurry for this. Indeed, it might be best to leave it until the autumn, as many people go away on holiday over the summer. We suggest that I give a holding reply and that the invitation is considered in the context of Mr. Patten's public relations programme after his arrival.
