Attended the Cancun Summit Meeting in Mexico as A member of the Bangladesh delegation.

1982-83

Jan. 1984 to Dec. 1987 :

Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh. Played major role in formulating and implementing policies

for privatisation in the industrial and financial sectors and expansion of the Financial Sector.

Principal Finance Secretary and Advisor to the President in charge of the Ministry of Finance - with the rank and status first of a Minister of State, then as a regular Cabinet Minister in charge of the Ministry of Finance. (Also in charge of the Ministry of Planning in addition, during this period). Presented four budgets of the Government - more than any other Finance Minister in Bangladesh. At the end of December 1987, voluntarily resigned for personal and professional reasons.

(During this period ('84-'87) the Ministry of Finance had the overall responsibility for co-ordinating domestic resources, external resources, budget and monetary policy, public and private investment programmes.
