Many thanks for your letter of 30 April. In the meantime, it was good to have a chance to talk briefly at John Yaxley's Reception on the 6th.

I look forward to hearing from you as to which day you would like to come to Wimbledon. You might like to know that we have just heard from David Wilson that he and Natasha will not after all be able to come on the Sunday, since they will not now be getting back to England until mid-July.

Following our discussion on the 6th, I have asked my secretary to contact yours to fix up a mutually convenient date for you to come round here for lunch with David Orr and myself, together with some of our senior directors connected with Hong Kong. If you have the time, we can then take an hour or so before or after lunch for you and I to have a private talk, as you suggested. If it proves difficult to fix both a talk and the lunch on the same day, I have asked my secretary to fix two separate appointments.

I hope that you enjoy Shrubland Hall. Annmarie and I have been going there regularly since 1979 and have always found it both a restful holiday and efficacious in shedding pounds (not that Annmarie needs to do so). In fact, we had been planning to go there this summer and my talking to you prompted me to fix for us to do so for a week in mid August. We can compare notes afterwards about how strong willed we have been and how many pounds we have lost my record to date is ten in a week but I have to say that it usually does not take me too many months to put it all back on again!
