På New Governor

(I've said

ok)

Dear Peter,

LegCo Question

Martin Barrow has put down the following question for written reply at this Wednesday's LegCo sitting:

"Will the Hong Kong Government advise the British Government that the anachronistic colonial practice of requiring the Governor to wear a plumed hat and sword on certain public ceremonial occasions is no longer appropriate to the circumstances of Hong Kong?"

We propose the following reply:

telegram.

"The new Governor will no doubt take into account views expressed about the appropriate style of dress which he should wear on public ceremonial occaions.
