UK/HONG KONG EXTRADITION RELATIONS POST 1997

1. At the extradition strategy meeting held on 1 April, the FCO representatives undertook to consult Hong Kong Department (HKD) about how extradition was expected to be dealt with post-1997. refers.

Paragraph 22 (v) of the report of the meeting

We have now done so and I enclose for your information a copy of a background note prepared by HKD. I am not enclosing a copy of the HK/Netherlands extradition treaty referred to in paragraph 4 of the note, although if you would like to see a copy of the text please let me know and I shall arrange for it to be sent to you.

3. Clearly the Department have the subject under active consideration, although I suspect it is still a bit early to know quite what the final shape will look like. I shall keep you informed as things progress.
