dealt with in the Report, recommendations are also made in
fields such as maintenance orders and the mutual recognition
of divorces, marriages and adoptions. These are matters of
considerable concern to many individuals in both Hong Kong
and the PRC and the British side accepts the proposals made
in the Report on these important matters.

The British
side wishes to begin discussions with
the Chinese side as soon as possible on the various
recommendations listed in paragraph 2 above and in the
attached Report of the Working Party. We would suggest that,
once the Chinese side has had an opportunity to study our
proposals, experts from the two sides should meet with a view
to reaching agreement on the way forward.
