new bilateral agreements which apply to Hong Kong i.e.

those in categories (a) and (b) in paragraph 5 above.

Future Adaptation

Nearer to 1997 certain modifications to the legislation

will be required to ensure that it does not contravene the Basic

Law.

One provision that will require such modification is the

reference to the Governor (para. 5 above). The British side would

consult the Chinese side on any such changes in accordance with the

agreed principles for consultation on adaptation of laws.
