Power/Function

To resolve disputes about wages

To inquire into the cause of any death which occurs on a foreign-going British ship

(a) To be present at the discharge of a seafarer

(b) To approve the form of the certificates of discharge and report forms relating to discharge of seamen

(c) To receive discharge reports from superintendent

(a) To approve form of crew lists made by a ship's master

(b) To receive crew lists as a ship's final port of destination; give master a certificate acknowledging receipt thereof; take charge of all documents delivered to him as required by the MSA; transmit them to the

Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen

(c) To record and preserve the documents mentioned in (b) above
