Pursuant to the Sino-British Joint Declaration on the
question of Hong Kong the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has been discussing with the Government of the People's Republic of China how to handle the future allocation of call signs to Hong Kong. The Two Governments have agreed that by 1 January 1997 Hong
Kong should have the exclusive use of the 'VRA-VRZ' series
and that this situation should be maintained after 1 July
1997.
2. The British Government requests the Secretary General, in exercise of his power under the provision of No 2086 of the Radio Regulations annexed to the International
Telecommunication Union Convention, Nairobi 1982, to amend the allocation in the VPA-VSZ Series in Appendix 42 of the
Radio Regulations to read as follows:
VPA-VQZ United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland;
VRA-VRZ United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland (Hong Kong);
VSA-VSZ United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland.
With effect from 1 January 1997.

The British Government believes that the Government of
the People's Republic of China is requesting the
Secretary-General that after 1 July 1997 the allocation of
the VRA-VRZ series should be changed to the 'People's
Republic of China (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region)' The British Government understands and supports this request.
4. The British Government recognises that in accordance
with the provisions of the said No 2086 of the Radio
