UK NOTE
USUAL START
1. Pursuant to the Sino-British Joint Declaration on the question of Hong Kong the Government of the United Kingdom has been discussing with the Government of the People's
Republic of China how to handle the future allocation of call signs to Hong Kong. The two Governments have agreed
that by 1 January 1997 Hong Kong should have the exclusive
use of the 'VRA-VRZ' series and that this situation should
be maintained after 1 July 1997.
2.
The British Government requests the Secretary-General to amend the series in appendix 42 of the Radio Regulations 'VRA-VRZ' to read 'United Kingdom of Great Britain
and Northern Ireland (Hong Kong)' with effect from 1 January
1997.
3. The British Government believes that the Government of the People's Republic of China is requesting the
Secretary-General that after 1 July 1997 the allocation of the VRA-VRZ series should be changed to the 'People's Republic of China (Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region)'.
The British Government understands and supports this
request.
4. The British Government recognise that in accordance with Radio Regulations 2086 of the Nairobi Convention on
this change will need to be confirmed by the following radio
conference.
