purchase by CNAC and China Travel Service of a 10% stake in Cathay Pacific Airways.

It was good of you to give me the background. I

agree with you that this is an important development which is good news for Cathay Pacific and for Hong Kong. The willingness of Chinese enterprises to take a major stake in prominent companies like Cathay Pacific can only

help cooperation and mutual understanding.

I share your

hope that this transaction will also help over the

separation of the Air Service Agreement, which it is

important that we resolve.
