The Missions to Seamen & Apostleship of the Sea

6.

Ministry Five full-time chaplains made 3,000 visits to vessels by launch during the year. They provide Christian services for and introduced the facilities of the Mariners' Club to those

those seafarers visiting Hong Kong. Everyday a chaplain is on duty in the Club. Visits to seafarers at home, in hospital or prison are undertaken whenever required.

7.

Welfare Two social workers offer counselling service to the Chinese seafarers and their families. Apart from the usual round of individual counselling, swimming lessons for children and arrangements for cultural activities, new areas of work such as self-help groups for seamen's wives and retired seamen's

retired seamen's club have

have been established. The chaplains, assisted by the Marine Department, Seamen's Union and Officers' Guild, also provide advice and assistance to foreign seafarers who need help during their stay in Hong Kong.

8.

Facilities Some 72,000 seafarers use the facilities each year. Accommodation for 150 seafarers is provided by the Mariners' Club which has 83% occupancy.

Public rooms are converted into dormitories in case of need. Restaurants, bars, bowling alley and swimming pool are well patronised, but services which are most appreciated are the free use of typewriter, secretarial and travel help and access to fax and international telephone services.
