Philip Channel, in the vicinity of 1° 04'N 103° 42'E

Ship boarded by 5 pirates armed with knives, crowbars and screw- drivers while transiting Philip Channel. Speed was reduced due to traffic conditions. Precautions against attacks had been taken. Pirates forceably tied up Chief Officer and bosun, broke into masters room and opened the safe. An attempt to break into ship's office was un- successful. Pirates left when alarm was raised.

Damage to doors, ship's and crew's cash stolen, crew personal effects stolen, Crew assaulted with knife butt and lives threatened, Master unable to leave bridge during attack as

presence required for navigation duties on bridge.

Alarm raised when presence of pirates discovered.

Prior to

attack, deck patrols in

operation, deck well lit, hoses rigged.

Report made to VTIS on Channel 10.
