The large pool of knowledge available to members of PIARC is essential for all practitioners in the profession and an opportunity is afforded through National Congresses, World Congresses and membership of Technical Committees and Working Groups to meet colleagues, researchers, client organisations and other specialists: to learn of developments and to make a contribution in the various activities associated with highways.
The last British National Congress was held in 1989 in Torquay, when the theme was 'Engineering Safer Roads'. Arrangements are currently in hand for the next National Congress in 1993 when the theme will be 'Links with Europe'.
PIARC IS A UNIQUE ORGANISATION. IT EMBRACES A WIDE SPECTRUM OF THOSE
CONCERNED INTERNATIONALLY WITH HIGHWAYS AND TRAFFIC MATTERS. IT
PROVIDES A PERMANENT STRUCTURE THROUGH WHICH A BETTER
UNDERSTANDING OF POLICIES AND PRACTICES WORLDWIDE CAN BE ACHIEVED.
Membership of the association falls into three categories: individual, collective and public body. From 1993 the annual subscription rate is £28.00 for individual members and £265.00 for collective and public body members.
Further information, copies of Reports from World Road Congresses and other publications (price list enclosed), and membership application forms can be obtained from the PIARC BNC Secretariat at the above address.
