Special Economic Zone in 1980, a total of RMB 2.88 billion has been invested in
Zhuhai in capital construction, with RMB 1 billion on infrastructure.
Port of Gaolan

Gaolan Port is an ambitious project being developed by the Zhuhai
Authorities, with a view to expanding its port activities to an international level. The
port, located near the estuary of the Xijiang River, has an easy access to the
mainstream of the River and is just one kilometre away from the international shipping
route of Daxi Road.

The port has great potential of being developed into an international deep-
water harbour with a targeted annual throughput of 100 million tonnes. Essential
infrastructural facilities to make the port operational include a massive dyke linking
the Gaolan Islands together and a 430 km long expressway linking Gaolan Island to
the urban district of Zhuhai,
