parties

marriage may be freely expressed
in the
presence of a competent civil or religious authority, and to encourage the registration of marriages, (Article 2). They are also required to take all effective measures to prevent ships and aircraft authorized to fly their flags from conveying slaves and to ensure that their ports, airfields and coasts are no t used for the conveyance of
slaves, and to exchange information in order to ensure the practical Co-ordination of the measures taken by them in combating the slave trade (Article 3).

Articles 5 and 6 of the Convention stipulate that
the following acts shall be criminal offences under the
laws of the Contracting Parties :
(a)
(b)
mutilating, branding or otherwise marking a
slave
to
or
a person of servile status in order indicate his status, or as a punishment,
for
other any
accessory thereto; and
or reason,
of
being
enslaving another person or inducing another person to give himself or a person dependent
upon
him
into slavery,
Or
similar
institutions and
practices, Or attempting
these acts, Or being accessory thereto, or being a party to a conspiracy to accomplish
any such acts.
