Dear Mr Asprey,

COMMENTS/MESSAGES

TG ASA 19/92.07

Further to our fax to you of 16 July expressing concern about Chen Yu (Liu Yijun) and Lin Lin, we understand from their lawyer that the two women will be returned to China on Monday.

As we indicated in our last fax to you, we believe that there is compelling evidence which indicates that both women would be at grave risk of human rights violations if returned to China. In light of this, we would appreciate receiving urgently your comments as to why the Hong Kong Government apparently believes they may safely be sent back to China.

We remain deeply concerned about these two women and repeat our request that the Government of Hong Kong under no circumstances returns them to China.

I am sending a copy of this fax to His Excellency the Governor, Mr Chris Patten, and to the Rt Hon. Alistair Goodlad, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Yours sincerely,

labab

Ian Martin
