Sir Edward Heath's call on the Secretary of State

The Secretary of State was grateful for your brief of 14 September. As he talked to Sir Edward Heath the latter's considerable knowledge, and up-to-date knowledge, of trends in China became clear, as did his trenchant views. The Secretary of State did not hand over the unclassified background note. Christopher Hum and I feel that in view of what Sir Edward Heath said there is little point in sending it to him.
