We think these MOUS should survive 1997, as in the case of any commercial contract which, unless it provides a termination date, should be in effect until it is terminated by mutual consent.
Within the Province of Guangdong, there is only one Stock Exchange which is in Shenzhen. We have heard stories that Guangzhou wishes to open one but so far it seems this has been prevented by the Central authorities. Any cross-border cooperation at present is taking place between the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong and its counterpart. It is too early to talk about full cooperation between regulators at this stage because one does not exist across the border.
