The recent increase in the importance of regional integration on the

subcontinent is opening up new prospects for co-operation.

(a) Objectives

Support for Brazil's efforts to promote regional integration.

Transfer of know-how and expertise.

(b) Forms

Technical assistance (secondment of experts, training of specialist

personnel in certain practical aspects of integration).

- Promoting intra-regional trade.

Supporting regional institutions and joint projects and initiatives

launched by MERCOSUL, the Rio Group and the Amazon Co-operation

Treaty.

Studies in the field of regional links and communications.

Certain jointly agreed areas could be given priority status, with a

view to placing co-operation outside the confines of a strictly

bilateral framework, bringing together other countries with the

same interests in such fields as telecommunications,

environment, etc.
