Thank you for your minute of 24 August. I have not heard of any one else in the FCO with whom Mr Cottrell might have made contact. I had heard of Robert Cottrell's project a few weeks ago from Sir Richard Evans. I cannot now recall whether he had interviewed Sir Richard and he certainly said nothing very specific about the direction Mr Cottrell's researches were going. I have tried, so far without success, to get in touch with Sir Richard. If I manage to do so in the next day or so I will let you know what he says.

I have had a quick look through Mr Galsworthy's account of the Joint Declaration Negotiations.
