I am so sorry to trouble you, but Lord Howe wonders

if we might enlist your help with the interview he has

agreed to give Mr. Robert Cottrell on Monday, 7th

September.

You will see from the papers I enclose that

Mr. Cottrell is working on a book focusing on Sino-

British negotiations of 1982-84. Although Lord Howe

will, of course, be putting together his own material on

this, he would be most grateful if you could let him have

some sort of steer from the Department, in case any of

the interviews already conducted by Robert Cottrell have

turned up special sensitivities of which Lord Howe should

be aware before his meeting.
