Will the Crimes Ordinance still apply to Hong Kong
after 30 June 1997 and, if so, will it need
amending in any way?
Yes, the Crimes Ordinance will still apply after
1997, but certain parts of it will need adapting
as a result of the change of sovereignty.
Which parts of the Crimes Ordinance will require
adaptation and what sort of adaptations will be
required?
The adaptations required are mainly of
terminology. Parts I and II which deal with
treason and sedition may also need adapting in
substance to be compatible with Article 23 of the
Basic Law. But as our consideration of
