We did this by getting in close. Each time we got in close, the sergeant would assist one person onto our boat, whilst I helped them keep their balance and accomodated them at the stern. It was only possible to do this one at a time, because if we had stayed against the rock for any length of time we would probably have taken a severe battering with the possibility of our Own boat breaking up. This part of the operation took about five minutes.

It was made particularly hazardous with the heavy rain and the sea water breaking against the rock.

11.

After getting all six persons on board we returned to Tai O pier, as it would have been for too difficult to go safely alongside launch 73 at this location. We were escorted to Tai O by two other police sea-riders.

12.

At Tai O we assisted the rescued persons with warm refreshments, before sending them to Tai O clinic for treatment. They weren't actually injured but were shivering with cold. The six of them were all from mainland China. I found out that they had been on board a fishing vessel that had been blown onto Wong Fa Pai and sank. I was not injured. PV 43 received minor damage to the hull, but nothing serious. The youngest person was

a four year old boy. They were all very frightened, especially this young fellow.

After securing their attendance at Tai O clinic, we left them there and resumed patrol.
