It was discovered that there were six persons here and it was decided to board them onto PV 43 one at a time. I stood with my back into the wind whilst holding onto the rope with both hands. The strain on the rope was incredible and it took all my strength to keep PV 43 under control. The rain and the crashing water was making my task all the more difficult, almost blinding me at times. I was fortunate to maintain my balance throughout this
stage.

The system we worked to load the persons was to pull PV 43 close to the rock, put one person onboard and then let it go astern to avoid damage on the rocks. Sergeant 13273 was assisting each person to get off the rock, whilst PC 19632 remained on board helping them to the stern. When all six persons were safely on PV 43, I checked the area before being the last person to jump on myself.

It would have been too dangerous to attempt to go alongside launch 73 here, so we returned to Tai O in the sea rider, escorted by two other sea-riders from another police launch. Now with ten persons on board we were very low in the water and with the large waves crashing over ut it was necessary to travel very slowly. In fact, it took 45 minutes to travel the short distance to Tai 0. The emergency was such that we had to evacuate everbody together as the tide was rising, which as I mentioned before, would mean that the whole rock would be submerged.

At Tai 0, treatment was arranged for the six at Tai O clinic. were all from mainland China and had apparently been onboard a fishing vessel that sank after colliding with Wong Fa Pai. The youngest was a four year old boy who was extremely frightened. The others included two females and three males. There was some minor damage to the hull of PV 43. When our task was completed, we resumed patrol.
