UK/HK JOINT FUNDING SCHEME

in

1. I should be grateful to know urgently if you can throw any light on this issue (see copy papers below). Our scholarships budget globally is under severe pressures for the forthcoming PES cycle 1993/94 to 1995/96. A saving of £2.2 m would solve many of our problems. On x there is, as you know, already a merit scholarships scheme in place for Hong Kong students (50% funded from CRD and Sir SK Tang Bequest resources) with a recently agreed

inc annual funding to 1996. It would not necessarily be the case that any savings from the UK/HK Joint Funding Scheme would go to another scholarship scheme for Hong Kong students. There are other high priority political targets elsewhere in the world which are much less well funded than Hong Kong and we might wish to redploy any savings to them. This would of course be matter for decision by the Board of Management.
