The Chairman of the Hong Kong Association has issued the following statement today, Wednesday, 15th April, 1992:

"The Hong Kong Association warmly welcomes the appointment of Mr Alastair Goodlad as Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office with responsibility for Hong Kong. With his extensive experience of business in the Far East, allied to his important role in the Government Whips' Office, Mr Goodlad will be in an excellent position to understand Hong Kong and its needs. We wish him every success.

At the same time the Association wants to express its gratitude and appreciation for the role played by

Lord Caithness in looking after Hong Kong's interests in the last government, and wishes him well in his next post."
