In 1991, 5.5 tonnes of demonetized and defaced cupro-nickel

coins and 11.4 tonnes of nickel-brass coins comprising 5

dollar, 2 dollar, 1 dollar, 50 cent, 10 cent and 5 cent pieces

were shipped to the Royal Mint. These coins were sold as scrap.
