The President announced this afternoon his decision to refer to the MMC the bid by Lloyds for Midland. He also announced that he would not be seeking to exercise jurisdiction over the bid by Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, which was cleared yesterday by the European Commission. I am attaching copies of both announcements together with a Q&A brief which can be used to respond to questions.
