Governors, Ladies & Gentlemen,

great pleasure is to welcome all of you
LO llong Kong for this the 25th Annual
Meeting of the Board of Governors of the
Asian Development Bank. Much depends upon
the success of the ADB in stimulating the
economic and social advancement of its
Developing Member Countries
the DMCS.

Since ils
establishment in 1966,
the ADB has played a major part in the
economic transformation of Asia.
This
transformation has of course been uneven.
Many parts of the continent have reached
the point of economic take-off. Others
are still struggling against the odds to
raisc the living standards of their
people.
