This is just a note to thank you most warmly for making so much time available to Simon Broadbent, Nigel Cox and me. It was tremendously helpful to come to Hong Kong and talk through so many issues. I'm just sorry that it all came at such a busy week. I think it would be worth repeating the exercise on a fairly regular basis, since it helped to resolve various points which are more difficult to tackle in the rather stilted context of telegraphic traffic.
I have registered your interest in returning to London to talk to the new Governor when he is appointed. Meanwhile, I hope that you will succeed in cracking the Chinese resistance to the airport project.
I was most impressed by the optimism and good spirits of all we talked to, despite the pressures from LegCo, Peking and the press.
