Stock Exchange who have considered and rejected the idea of a second vote on the grounds that it would add nothing worthwhile in terms of shareholder protection. This does seem all very well and good although from a layman's point of view, the argument against a second shareholder vote does seem to ignore the fact that owners of shares can change quite rapidly, and by the time Jardines did come to delist
(if they decided to do so) new shareholders might be unaware of past events.

On the subject of the Takeover Code, with which Jardines were much exercised in their earlier dealings with the Hong Kong authorities, Sir Charles Powell and Robert Owen
(Chairman SFC) have agreed to continue low key discussions to try to narrow their differences in the hope that conditions for public consultation and solutions might be more favourable (to Jardines) in about a year's time.

Subject to what Sir Charles Powell might say, it does seem that the discussions between all the parties have been fruitful, and that good progress is being made, despite the fact that one or two problems remain to be resolved.
