Henry Keswick telephoned the Minister today. He said that there had been a Chinese (NCNA) attack on Jardines earlier today which "could not be more vicious" (he subsequently faxed across the attached text).
the company had been most supportive of the Governor, they had been singled out for this unwelcome attention. This would inevitably cause a run on shares but would only be a "cause celebre" for a few days.
2. Mr Keswick agreed with the Minister that this was all very boring but that there was nothing to be done other than "gritting teeth". He added some disobliging comments about Sir David Wilson. Finally, Mr Keswick said he thought the Minister's drinks party for the London-based Hong Kong community on 16 December (reported separately) had been a most useful occasion.
