JARDINES LINKS WITH THE UK
Jardines' role in the economic and trading links between Hong Kong and the United Kingdom stretch back to the very founding of both Hong Kong and Jardines in the 19th Century. Since then, the role has expanded into almost every business field.
Jardine Matheson Holdings and the other public companies under its control have a market capitalisation of £9B and, in these terms, is one of the leading British owned, managed, and controlled group of companies in Hong Kong.
The six major operating companies of the Group have extensive links with the United Kingdom, and the Group also has extensive investments in the United Kingdom itself:
1)
2)
Jardine Insurance Brokers, one of London's leading insurance brokers; the 9th largest worldwide and the 4th largest headquartered in London;
Kwiksave, 25% owned by Dairy Farm, and the 6th largest supermarket group in the United Kingdom;
3)
A wide variety of financial services through Matheson Bank and other institutions in the City of London;
4)
5)
A network of vehicle distribution companies in South East England and the Midlands;
A significant strategic stake in Trafalgar House, a leading engineering, construction, property, hotels and cruise ship company employing over 30,000 people.
In addition to these commercial relationships, senior members of the Group have always played a role in the political and social links between Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. In particular, they have an active role in London's Hong Kong Association, which is often chaired by Jardines' senior executive in London.
