Ms Barnes-Jone pu lat support (USD)

1.

The US Consul-General asked me on 24 November whether the Governor had developed his thinking further on a visit to

the US.

2.

I said the Governor was thinking in terms of two visits: one soon after Mr Clinton's inauguration when I knew he hoped to meet the President; and a second, wider trip around May. I thought it very possible that the Prime Minister would mention the Governor's interest in meeting the new President when the two met in December.

3.

Mr Williams supported these ideas; and thought the chances of a meeting with Mr Clinton after the inauguration better than before it. He is reporting to Washington.
