Thank you for your timetable of events surrounding the Governor's speech on 7 October.

We have produced a first draft of the events and activities planned for the UK, copy attached. It will be refined next week after discussions with HKD and News Department in the FCO and following lunch with Alastair Goodlad on Thursday 17 September.

Provision of briefing material for overseas offices

I shall need this on 6 October as we shall begin our briefings at 8.00 am the next morning before it can be picked up from the office. I should be grateful if you could send this material to me by fax (personal) late afternoon on 6 October your time (say between 6.00 and 7.00 p.m.)

Briefings of key UK political figures by the Governor

Could you let us have the names of those to whom the Governor proposes to speak. we need this so that Alastair Goodlad and I can then decide who he will brief (mainly, I imagine, Conservative MPS at Brighton) and who HKGO will contact in London.
