As a result of lobbying by Her Majesty's Government,
international community has supported Hong Kong by
introducing similar schemes.
A prominent example is the

United States' Immigration Act of 1990, which provides for,
amongst other
things, the issuing of immigrant visas to Hong
Kong people
people which allow recipients to defer their settlement
in the United States until after 1997.
