The Chairman of the Hong Kong Association has issued the following statement today, Wednesday, 7th October, 1992:

The Hong Kong Association strongly supports the vision for Hong Kong's future set out in the Governor's speech on

7 October, as well as his specific proposals for the territory's

political and constitutional development between now and 1997.

The Association's Chairman, Mr Henry Keswick, said:

"We congratulate the Governor warmly on his speech. His creative proposals set out a clear way forward for Hong Kong. We believe they will strengthen the people of Hong Kong's confidence in their future. The

Association urges all those who have Hong Kong's

Governor's lead, and work for a smooth transition for Hong Kong in 1997 in conformity with the Joint

Declaration.'
