He has agreed to speak to Lord Howe, Sir Charles Powell and Lord Wilson of Tillyorn on the telephone on Tuesday, 6th October (Sir Charles Powell is currently on Mr. Goodlad's list as well, I think, so you may (or may not) wish to reconsider that).
9.
Is anyone going to speak to Francis Maude? I strongly recommend this if at all possible; he is quite a frequent television commentator, was closely involved, as you know in Hong Kong affairs, and was mooted as a possible candidate for Governor. on the latter basis, it might also be politic for the Secretary of State to include Merlyn Rees (Lord Rees?) on his list of 'Dear Colleague' letters.
10.
I have also marked on John Yaxley's list those who I think would appreciate a letter from the Secretary of State.
11.
Baroness Chalker: as the FCO spokesman in the Lords, Baroness Chalker will obviously have an important role. Do you have any plans to brief her? Lady Chalker
who is a friend of the Governor might also appreciate a personal letter from him. I propose to put this to him assuming you think it sensible
12.
Perhaps we could have a copy of your consolidated list when you have it, and also a copy of whatever you send over to Stephen Wall?
13.
You may like to know that the 2,800 tickets to the Governor's public meetings on 8 and 9 October went on sale this morning at 10 am and had all gone by 10.45 am. We are scheduling two more meetings for 12 and 13 October.
Yous ever,
Echword.
