The Governor asked the PA to draft a speaking note for his meeting with Ambassador Ma. We should also offer Ambassador Ma a helicopter tour and see if there was anything that his wife was interested in doing while she was in Hong Kong. UK Rep JLG said that he would also be happy to invite Ambassador Ma for a meal.

CBF on ExCo The Governor said that he had been lobbied hard on this issue by the MOD before coming out to Hong Kong. But it was ridiculous for CBF to still be on ExCo on this stage in Hong Kong's constitutional development.

UK Rep JLG said that the changes that the Governor was proposing to make to ExCo provided an ideal opportunity for removing the CBF. You said that such a move would be supported in the community. Mr. Hum said that he could not imagine that MOD would resist strenuously if the Governor made it clear that he wanted to do this.

(1) Mr. Goodlad's Visit to Hong Kong The Governor

said that he was proposing to take Mr. and Mrs Goodlad to Fanling for the weekend before his official programme began on 7 September. We would send a suggested programme in due course.
