Transport
1. Hong Kong needs a comprehensive transport policy which recognises the need for the provision of an affordable system under the application of the principle of competition in all transport services, while ensuring that the broadest needs of society are met.
2. Where there are instances when it becomes necessary to establish a priority between public and private transport, public transport should be favoured.
3. The provision of public transport systems by operators should
be monitored closely by the Government.
Labour
1. We uphold the principle that the workforce is entitled to share proportionately in the increasing prosperity of Hong Kong.
2. With the rapid, massive structural change that the Hong Kong economy is experiencing, it is imperative that comprehensive initiatives are taken to improve the quality of the workforce and assist in the transfer and acquisition of skills through retraining.
3. We support the adoption of legislation to improve the
standards of industrial safety.
4. We will work for improvements
in women's rights in the
workplace and adherence to the principle of equal pay for equal work.
5. In principle we are opposed to the importation of labour, except where absolutely necessary and only after taking into account the expressed views and interests of the workforce. In arriving at any decisions over the importation of labour, priority must be given to
given to the fundamental
the fundamental interests of the
workforce.
6. We believe in the establishment of mechanisms to facilitate improvements in the relationships and communications between workers and management.
7. Workers' rights must be recognised in accordance with generally accepted international practices and conventions.
