Dr Shiu said that he was concerned about the 300 or So children who had been affected by the 1981 British Nationality Act. Just before the election in the UK, Peter Lloyd had said that a decision would be made on the fate of these children shortly
He understood that the Home Secretary was in a position to award them British Nationality on a discretionary basis. He hoped that the Governor would look into the situation.
The Governor said that although this was the first time this issue had been raised with him in Hong Kong,
he had learnt of this concerns while he was in London. He undertook to look into the matter.
