The Director TFU visited the United States and Canada in 1989
and his itinerary was arranged by the FBI and RCMP respectively.
The purpose of the Director's visits to Australia and Hong Kong is
to learn at first hand of the operational methods and activities of
Agencies in those countries responsible for tackling and curbing
corruption, racketeering, organised crime, white collar crime,
commercial crime, money laundering, bank and stock exchange fraud,
international fraud etc. The Director is interested in legislative
measures enacted; investigation and compliance techniques; IT/IS
applications for tackling racketeering and fraud, and in the
intelligence field; strategic studies of organised crime etc; the
collation, analysis and dissemination of financial intelligence; the
operation of statutory confiscation schemes; and in racketeering and
financial crime/money laundering problems encountered and solutions
implemented, or devised but not implemented because of political or
legislative concerns.
