HM OVERSEAS CIVIL SERVICE (HMOCS): POSTS IN OTHER DEPENDENT TERRITORIES

Line to take

Members of HMOCS serving in Hong Kong remain eligible for consideration for employment in other Dependent

Territories. In recent years a number of HMOCS officers from Hong Kong have filled with distinction Governorships and other positions in the other Dependent Territories. Although the circumstances of different Dependent Territories vary, experience of administration in Hong Kong can be invaluable.

In making future appointments to posts in the other Dependent Territories, the Government will therefore continue to circulate details of forthcoming vacancies to HMOCS officers in Hong Kong and will give full consideration to any applications received from them.

The Government must give first priority to ensuring the best possible governance of the Dependent Territories, so it will on occasion be necessary to consider appointing candidates who have not previously served under the Crown. However all applications will be considered on their merits. Applications from members of HM Diplomatic Service will not receive any preferential treatment over those from members of HMOCS.
