(iii) 60 years for Assistant Registrars, Member, Lands Tribunal, judicial

officers presiding over specialised Tribunals and Magistrates;

service may be extended beyond retirement age up to an aggregate of 5 years, and for as long as necessary to enable a judicial officer to deliver judgement or to do any other thing in relation to proceedings which were commenced before the retirement age or the expiry of an approved extension;

the pension factor is 1/675 (1/600 under the old pension scheme);

qualifying service for pension is reduced- from 10 years to 5 years

for officers A

appointed after the age of 50; and

up to 50% of pension may be commuted into a pension gratuity at a commutation factor of 14 (25% under the old pension scheme).

The new scheme also offers a number of additional features which are not available under the old scheme -

(a)

pensionable service is increased at the rate of one month for each completed month of service in a judicial office that is both after age 50 and after 1 July 1987; i.e. a judicial officer will enjoy a pension enhancement at double the normal rate in respect of service after the age of 50 and after 1 July 1987;

minimum pension equivalent to 1/4 of salary is payable for an officer who retires on medical grounds;

officers resigning from the service with not less than 10 years qualifying service will, with the approval of the Chief Justice, be eligible for a pension; and
