OVERALL HMOCS STATISTICS
Thank you for sending me a copy of the HMOCS statistics which you had been working on which Hong Kong provided on a disc dated 11 September 1992.
I have now clarified the position with Hong Kong and enclose a copy of Mike Water's reply which explains why their September and October figures seemed to vary. A revised sheet of statistics is attached to the letter which shows that they now estimate that there would be 544 officers still in service after 1997, as opposed to the 608 officers which you calculated would be in service on the basis of the September figures. This new figure is based on the assumption that all HMOCS officers retire at the age of 55.
I suggest that we now use these revised figures for all future calculations and am sending a copy to GAD for their information.
