HMOCS OVERALL STATISTICS

I spoke to Richard Plumb about the latest HMOCS statistics which were given to Mr Morris in Hong Kong last week.

1.

The

2. Mr Plumb agrees that the numbers which Hong Kong have given seem rather small in comparison to previous statistics.

ODA have been working on figures which Hong Kong supplied on 11 September 1992 and think that it is strange that the figures should have changed so much over one month. The September figures show:

Serving HMOCS members

775

However the ODA do not think that this figure includes potential HMOCS members which Hong Kong last gave as:

Judiciary

Admin

Police

Others

11 Nil

5

75

Total Number Potential HMOCS members = 91.

These figures seem very odd, especially given that we know that there are 84 potential members from the Police Force and 25 potential members from the Judiciary.

The ODA calculate that statistics for retirement before 30 June 1997 would be:

If the normal retiring age is 55 If the normal retiring age is 57 If the normal retiring age is 60

248

188

80

3.

Therefore the ODA's overall calculations differ somewhat from the new Hong Kong statistics:

Serving HMOCS officers

775

Potential HMOCS officers

91 +

Total

866

Max retiring before 1997

=

248

618

Potential members who may

retire naturally before 97 = 10

Total left in service

608
